Brow Aftercare

*FAILURE TO FOLLOW AFTER-CARE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN SCARRING, INFECTIONS, PIGMENT LOSS OR DISCOLORATION.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOUR MICROBLADING PROCEDURE:

To help minimize scabbing, use a clean tissue to lightly dab the brow area. Do this every couple minutes for the first 24 hrs. If you notice “lymph fluid” (clear/yellow fluid) at any point after that, just gently dab it away.

DAYS 1-7:

Wash the brow area twice per day (morning and night) followed by applying the aftercare ointment.

  • At the start and end of each day, use your clean fingertips (or a damp cotton round) and a pump of “ink soap” to gently cleanse your eyebrows. Pat them dry. Then put a thin (tip of a q-tip) layer of balm on each brow.

  • Keep in mind the cleansing shouldn't be a thorough scrub-down, it just needs to be done by gently wiping the brow area in a soft, smooth manner.

  • Less is more when considering how much ointment to apply; the amount applied to each eyebrow should be comparable in size to half of a grain of rice.

  • Microblading aftercare ointment should only be applied twice per day following the washes to avoid suffocating the skin and interfering with the skin’s natural healing process.

  • Avoid using any cleansing products that contain exfoliants or acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA) on your face.

DAYS 8-14:

The aftercare ointment no longer needs to be applied, but continue to gently wash the brow area each morning and night.

THINGS TO AVOID:

***It's critical to avoid the following for 14 days after your microblading procedure.

  • Touching the microbladed area except when washing or applying aftercare ointment.

  • Scratching, picking or peeling the microbladed area, as it can cause scarring and/or color loss.

  • Applying any makeup, moisturizer, lotion, or sunscreen to your eyebrows.

  • Avoid sleeping on your brows.

  • Sun exposure - sun tanning - salon tanning

  • Laser or chemical peels, and any other form of exfoliation.

  • Exercise - participating in sports and activities that induce perspiration

  • Long, hot baths or showers - jacuzzis - saunas - swimming

  • Applying any creams to your face or neck containing retinol or glycolic acid.

  • Engaging in tasks like heavy household cleaning where airborne debris can become prevalent or cause you to sweat.

  • Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, as it can cause the “wounds” to heal slower.

  • Transportation in open-air-vehicles where strong wind is likely, for example; driving in cars with windows down, convertibles, motorcycles, bicycles, and boats.

AFTER DAY 14:

Resume your normal activities except, continue to avoid the sun (wear a hat, sunglasses, etc), avoid laser or chemical peels and forms of exfoliation, and any creams containing retinal or glycolic acid until after the completion of your microblading touch up appointment (6-8 weeks after initial appointment), and its healing process as well.

Healing Process

Healed microblading results are the most beautiful and natural looking way to enhance eyebrows, but the path leading to those anticipated healed results can be a little bit surprising. Especially, if this is something you have never done before. In addition to following the microblading aftercare instructions, understanding the microblading healing process is essential to avoid undue worry and stress while going through the different stages of healing. I was you to feel prepared and confident in what you are investing your time and money into when it comes to your brows.

Since microblading involves making tiny incisions into the skin, clearly there’s going to be a healing process, just as there is for any other cut or wound. There are stages of the healing process that can cause many, especially those who aren’t prepared with what to expect, to wonder if eyebrow microblading was a mistake. To help reduce the anxiety, the microblading healing process is described below:

*PLEASE NOTE: EVERYONE HEALS DIFFERENTLY SO THESE TIMES ARE ONLY A GENERAL GUIDELINE.

MICROBLADING HEALING TIMELINE

DAY 1:

  • Eyebrows will look amazing immediately after microblading appointment

  • If you have never had any work done before or have sparse or light brow hairs…its very normal to feel a little shocked to “have eyebrows”.

  • Pigment gradually gets darker through out the day

  • Your brows will feel tender

  • Any redness on or around brows will fade

  • If there is a white ring around your brows, that is from the numbing and that will fade as well

WEEK 1:

  • As the pigment oxidizes it will get darker and bolder. Be prepared for it to look pretty its darkest between day 1-3.

  • Light scabbing will start to develop where microblading strokes occurred

  • Resist the temptation to pick the scabs, which can reopen the wounds and disrupt the microblading healing process. It might also remove some pigment, resulting in patchy brows. Let the scabs flake off naturally instead.

  • Tenderness should start to fade by the end of this week

WEEK 2:

  • Scabbing from microblading strokes begin to peel and flake off, sometimes revealing no definite, visible color in skin. Don’t panic. This is normal. The pigment will resurface.

WEEKS 3-4:

  • Pigment in skin continues to oxidize and microbladed strokes begin to reappear in color intended from the beginning, but some strokes come back looking patchy

WEEK 6:

  • Eyebrows should be fully healed and ready to undergo the finishing effects of touch-up appointment

  • Beautiful eyebrow enhancement/transformation is complete after final touch-up

  • Trust the process! You’ve got this!
